The DSA do not have a quota for test passes or fails if you demonstrate the standard required you will pass your test.

The Practical Test

The practical test starts with your eyesight test, which if you fail the driving test cannot continue.

Next you will be asked to describe to the examiner how you would carry out various safety checks on your car.

One show Me Question and One Tell Me Question

You will then be asked to drive your car out onto the road, where you will need to show the examiner that you can drive safely putting the Highway Code into practice.

During your test you will be asked to complete several exercises ie: Turning around in the road, Reversing round a corner and Reverse Parking.

Every test will include at least two these manoeuvres. Emergency stops are also included but only at random.

If possible your test will include driving on national speed limit roads including dual carriageways.

The test lasts approximately 40 minutes in which you are allowed to make up to 15 minor errors.

However you can only make 1 serious or dangerous mistake to fail the test.
